My daughter 17 months always gets colds this time of year and finds it difficult to breathe at night. I have just bought a calpol plug in for her that releases oils for her to help her breathe easily. These are good however replacement cartridges are very expensive as they only last one day.

I know you can get other machines that you can add oils too which will be a lot cheaper in the long run but not sure what to buy or where to look.

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

I *think* it was an ioniser my mum had, she wanted to help the atmosphere in her new flat when she moved in but it left a huge dirty stain around itself on the walls! She thinks this was the negative ions. It would not scrub off though no matter how hard she tried (and trust me, dirt and my mum are not friends- she is constantly cleaning!) In the end needed 4 coats of paint to get rid of the stuff!

I'd suggest looking on Amazon, Dooyoo or other review places to see other reviews before you buy- even if you buy elsewhere as if it is a common problem others will probably have mentioned it.

I just used to put a couple of drops of Olbas Oil on the front of her sleepsuit when my DD was small or on a clean hanky in her cot and used a bowl of water to humidify the room.

If you have a radiator on in the room, you can humidify with a damp cloth on the radiator and tuck a piece of cotton wool with a few drops of decongestant oil on there too.

Best not to have the room too warm either.

I think you can get a children's version of Olbas Oil now.
