I am trying to claim back charges on a 20,000 loan from HSBC. I first wrote to them in August - heard nothing. Another letter again at the end of September - heard nothing. I then contacted them by email through my account and they responded to say they were looking into it - this was 3 weeks ago and have just had a letter saying they want to know why I am asking for a recharge and that it will take 8 weeks - is this normal? Do I have to state why for them to look at it? I would have thought it was pretty obvious!!!

    Hi and welcome

The normal timescale is that of 8 weeks, but they sometimes ask for more time.
However once the 8 weeks have passed you can make the complaint to the FOS, but as they seem to be keeping you informed and not ignoring your case hopefully you will hear something very soon.
Also please be aware it can take some time with the FOS as well, as they have backlogs.

    Good luck with this.;)

  • Hi

Is that 8 weeks from the original letter or the most recent letter asking for more information?

It should be from when they receive the letter, some go from the date of the letter.
But banks willl sometimes ask for more time which could pass the 8 weeks.

  • HSBC currently have 16 week backlog apparently. Don't believe the customer service emails they never reply. They just send you one saying they are looking into it.
