Bought a xmas bike from Toys R us, faulty handlebars???

hi all,

A relative is a regular at Toys R us. He bought a new bike for the seven year old grandson. Staff advised to come back in a weeks time, why the fix the bike up, and check it is safe.

A week later the relative returns to the collection point. The staff member advises the bike has been safety checked, but wanted to check with the work shop to make sure the bike is ok to be released.

Moments later the staff member advises the relative, the bike has been checked, and wanted to give the work shop a second check.

The staff member comes back and advises relative the bike has been checked twice. Relative is presented with a check list of all the checks carried out. The relative holds onto the bike, and sees the handlebars swing dangerousely loose.

Relative is horrified, and brings this to the attention to the staff member.

Staff member disappears to the work shop and returns with another staff member.

Relative asks second staff member if he had checked the bike. second staff member acknowledges he personally had checked the bike and it is in sound condition.

Relative asks why the handlebars are swinging around.

2nd staff member plays it down and offers to tighten up the bars.

Relative unhappy in accepting the bike it its condition, and requests a manager.

customer service supervisor arrives. Relative explains, this bike is a xmas present for grandson. If the grandson used the bike in its condition, the child could injure himself.

Relative informs supervisor, the bike was not fully checked properly.

Relative leaves shop with bike.

Relative ringd store. Store advises to write to head office in maidonhead.

shouuld relative follow this up, or leave it???

  • Personnally I would not have left the store with it, and would have insisted on seeing the manager there and then to sort it out.

I would ring the store and speak to the manager and ring head office and let them know what has happened also might be a good idea to photograph the problem so that you have evidence of the condition of the bike.

    Hope you get it sorted.

i would have sorted it out instore as taking it off premises they could say that the buyer of the bike was responsible and not the store since they had paperwork to say it had passed safety checks
