Away from home hamper???

Hi everyone,

My sister and her husband have recently moved 250 miles away as he is in the RAF and was stationed up north. They have a soon to be 1 year old and are expecting baby number 2 on xmas day!! Unfortunately that has meant that they cannot travel home to see family nearer xmas. I have already purchased gifts for the kids but am struggling with what to get the adults. I would appreciate a little help from anyone that can give me some ideas.

Last year I made pamper hampers and sweetie mugs and they were very well recieved by the whole family. This year I would like to make a kind of a 'home away from home' type hamper with a few luxury type items that they will probably not think of getting for themselves nearer to the date with the baby on the way. For example like biscuits, choccies, hot chocolate etc but then I run out of ideas. I would love to be as crafty as last year but I am also 36 weeks pregnant and have a little girl who turns 3 tomorrow.

Sorry for all the waffle lol, any thoughts will be highly appreciated!!

  • I think its a brilliant idea as long as you know what they like / use. I'd recommend get things that are suitable for xmas as beyond so biscuits rather than mince pies as that way they have them in for "post baby" nights when they might have been too knackered to get anything or forgot due to being baby focused.

Also consider having a look for some nice "new mum" relaxation / bath stuff. They do it in the baby section of superdrug and i think boots as well. I got some once for a new mum and she nearly cried as i was the first person who thought of her first and not just the baby (baby present are nice but mum has had to do some hard work!).

Thanks for the reply. I have picked up a few things that I know they will use but also I have to be careful with what I send as they have a few allergies between them including nuts and strawberries lol! I had not thought of adding new mum gifts. I don't know why because I certainly would appreciate some this xmas! :o

    Thanks again,

how about some things from the area that they've moved from? there must be some regional foods that they would miss, and maybe include a local newspaper so that they can catch up on news back home. A photo album/frame with family pictures might help them to feel "closer" to the family.

I saw on other threads that new mums could be sent things like vouchers for a pedicure (as they haven't seen their feet for a while with bump in the way!) or a spa day so they can have a day to themself to relax, or even a magazine subscription so they can have a wee bit of "me" time whenever they have a spare minute or two at home
