Is it better to use Airmiles for hotel bookings or flights?

Hi, just coming up to having enough airmiles for a free trip to the Med. I rarely get a holiday.............:(. I am a single traveller, has anyone worked out wther you get maximum return from using airmiles for a flight or to pay for the hotel? I was wondering if it works out cheaper getting an Easyjet flight and get the hotel free, thats providing Easyjet fly to where I want to go of course. Of course I could spend hours looking to see which works out best on average, but was hoping someone might save me that trauma:eek:! Thanks Pam

Depends if there are more no frillls flights from your preferred airport than full service airline flights, so which are your preferred airports to fly from in the UK?

If you are converting tesco vouchers to air miles, don't forget you can use the tesco vouchers on http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=1175 hotels abroad.

Don't forget flights on Aer Lingus from Gatwick to Malaga are sometimes available through Airmiles, also Air Portugal from Gatwick to Lisbon and Porto.

I believe that Air Miles is better for not popular locations in Europe. for the popular locations, the cheap airlines are better.

For hotels use priceline or another such web site.

For flying long haul use your air miles!!

Lower North is correct... save your airmiles and use a LCC for short trips (4hours or less).
  • WE have also found that air miles are better value for long haul trips but they do need a lot of miles and if you have spent years saving for what you have then you may as well use them as it could be that the scheme doe snot exist or you get fed up in a couple of years time. Also you may meet some one and then you will need twice as many

I've tried to book yesterday and the tariffs are completely rubbish when you use tesco vouchers.

Booking on the website: 89.25EUR per night
Booking using tesco vouchers: 101GBP (25.25/33.33 Tesco vouchers) per night

Given the cost...I'll use the voucher for something else (for example Legoland or London Eye)

    Hi,

Normally I would use BA Miles to upgrade an economy ticket to WT+ or upgrade a WT+ ticket to club - can you do that with airmiles?

Much better than going economy & gets better value - if you look at flyertalk.com & the BA Exec forums, there is a thread of airmiles - might be useful.

  • Thanks so far. I probably will use them this year, I will look at hotel bookings. I would like to go to Crete. The chances of me meeting someone are somewhat remote. I am sixty and have been on my own now since 1985!
