M&S's Oudinot champagne is lovely IMO and the last time I shopped there it was on offer , can't remember the exact price , possibly £12 or 13.99 :undecided

Never had it myself , but I think Tesco's own brand is supposed to be nice too.

Tesco's Champagne Bru Premier Cru is very nice, and has won awards against the more expensive brands.
    Gone ... or have I?

they do some lovely ones, I bought langlois chateau 2002"champagne" made by Bollinger but it was about 9 quid a bottle and brilliant. I dont know if you can get this elsewhere.

I bough a mini bottle of champagne from M&S for my housemate's birthday and he said it was very nice. He was basically brought up in a delicatessen so I tend to value his opinion in such matters.

I love Champagne, Veuve Cliquot being my favourite...have tried most supermarket brands,

    Tesco is quite good.

tbh though I'd rather have a bottle of Hardy's Crest sparkling pinot noir Chardonnay 9.99 a bottle but usually on offer in Tesco or Sainsbury's for half price.

If it's to serve to guests I'd buy this for after the first bottle of champers, since it's very palattable to most who aren't wine drinkers.

    Just my 2 cents.

p.s. Don't serve it too cold either.Leave it out the fridge for half an hour before serving, and twist the bottle not the cork, pour down the side of the glass to not waste bubbles.;)

You don't have to buy "Champagne". Champagne is only called that because it's made in that region. The same wine made elsewhere can be far superior ot cheaper champagnes. Now I love champagne, but unless you get really good stuff there are better fizzes out there.

My own favourite is Jansz of Tasmania which is about £7 and absolutely gorgeous. If I can't find that then Graham Beck's Brut is lovely (South African).

Another useful tip if you're having people round then start off with the good bottle - after that people's palates are dulled and they are much less discerning! Lindauer is quite good for a cheapy. (£6 maybe?)

    Cheers!
