Aug USA fly drive help

Hi, as it's my 30 birthday on 6/8 have always wanted to spend it in New York, however gave decided to extend holiday and have a but if fun, would love to do Vegas San fran and LA whilst we there, bit apprehensive about booking all separately in case one part of the link fails. Not too fussed about which order but want to do it cheaply although must be in NYC on my birthday, though might fly to NYC then to sf before hiring a car drive to Vegas on to la before flying home to London anyone with any tips etc would be massive help as want itinerary sorted as planning on booking prob in jan sale? ? ?

If it were me I would book it all separate as it will keep cost down.
I would also start on the west and then finish on the east that way you are heading in right direction.

I'd fly from NY to the west coast (or vice versa) - saves a looong and in many parts boring drive and more importantly avoids a likely hefty one way rental fee.

Many of the chain hotels allow you to cancel up to 24 hours - or even by 4pm or 6pm on the day - without penalty, so I wouldn't worry too much about separate bookings.

I'd agree fly to NY first, cheaper flight.

I would then fly to Las Vegas, then drive up to SF,
I'd recommend going through Death Vally & Yeosmite Park, breath taking.

Drive back down the Pacific Coast Highway to LA for amazing sea views. Return flight from LA

Thanks we do want Togo straight to NYC but good idea to hi to Vegas then San fran, which to be honest know not alot about so need to do some more research Although think am being quite naive about cost! Always seems like a good idea until the costs add up although plan now to book separately as use holiday inn deal on this site plus am sure can get sons good hotel deals
