Help with Phones4u / o2 contract - o2 have no record on contract?!

Hi, please can somebody help me.

Last Sunday I ordered a Blackberry Torch contract from Phones4U, an o2 contract. The phone got delivered on Tuesday, I put my sim card in and on the covering letter it said it would be activated within 48 hours.

That time has passed and it hasn't been activated. I phoned o2, gave them the telephone number which was printed off with the phone, gave them my name and address and they said there is no record of me on their system, and to get in touch with Phones4U to sort it out and make sure they have passed my details on to me.

In the paperwork I received with the phone -'Consumer airtime application' it has some of my details filled in and at the bottom says fill in the whole form and send back to o2. What would happen if I didn't?

I'm just wondering as o2 have no record of me have I just been sent a Blackberry Torch for nothing? - thinking it might be an error by Phones4U? I was thinking of getting a PAYG sim for the phone and hopefully I don't get a monthly bill - what would you all do?

Thanks :)

Phones4U use a different system for contracts than most retailers, and its prone to errors. It sounds like they haven't connected you.
As O2 advised, it would be best to contact phones4U. They will eventually realise that they've sent you a handset and made a mistake.

When you say "my sim" - is that your existing sim or the one that arrived with the phone?

Sounds like the direct debit has not been set up on your account and they expect you to fill in the form and send it to o2.
Maybe it failed to set up properly - I would have thought o2 will have some record of the phone - all they need to do is register the sim card using the imei on the phone.

    You're guessing aren't you?

That's not what that form is and the second part is not how things work.
From what the OP says, phones4U have not connected them to the network. So the OP needs to contact phones4U

Guessing - partly. I would have said contact phones4u but not sure if OP wants to do that.

The form in question might be this one http://flash.o2.co.uk/shared/terms/pdfs/O2C1032N_Q1_Consumer_contract.pdf which appears to have something to do with direct debit setup.

This is what's called a "non connect", it will flash up on P4U systems even if you don't contact them and they'll get it manually connected through O2. It's because the order hasn't reached O2's system.

Sounds like it as there's a large number of mobile phone customers, some of which who spend £100s a month who don't bother with direct debits and prefer to make manual payments.

Sounds like P4U have screwed up, you'll need to take it up with them as the problem's at their end, if you try and taker it up with O2 you'll risk ending up with 2 contracts when P4U notice they've not connected you.
