  • When I went bankrupt my local paper did the notice as per usual. i didnt see it but my OH was questioned about it by a neighbour. She was a bit upset by this but as I pointed out to her, its really not that important. The point is we are now in a much better position than we were in. I went bankrupt on the 22nd August. Oh, the other wierd one was the landlord for my ex's house. As I had lived there as my last fixed address, been homeless for about 2 years, the OR used it as a reference address for my debts. Ex's landlord saw the notice in the paper and didnt understand that it wasnt being used as my current address, seems he doesnt have the ability to understand simple notices. People do read these notices, seems that some like to see others fall. Dont let this sway your decision at all though, its only important to get your life on track, other people soon forget this sort of thing. I also find it helps to be open and honest about it. No need to give out the bitty details but if someone mentions just go with it rather than get embarassed. Im always happy to talk openly about my financial muck ups, it takes the stigma away from it.

As far as the landlord is concerned, I was told by the OR that there is no need for them to notify the landlord. Its not there responsibility to do so. My other half has a house from a housing association, when she asked them if it would be an issue they said they couldnt care less. So long as they get the rent they dont care. Its no different for private landlords.
