Fares went down. :(

Hi guys,

I was hoping someone could advise me on whether or not it is feasible to get a refund in the difference of a fare drop for a flight?

On September 16, I purchased 3 tickets to Nairobi departing from London on November 12. At the time, I paid approx. £444 per ticket. I purchased the tickets through TravelPack.

Today however, when I check the price of the flight I see the price has dropped to £332 (nearly £110 drop), and as we are all about money saving, £110 can go a long way.

Is there anything I can do to possible get a refund for the difference? I called TravelPack and Virgin who utimately tell me it's not possible to do anything.

Not sure if anyone has experienced the same type of situation, and if so, were you able to get anything back?

easyJet give refunds if fares fall, but not for sale fares. I think your chances are zero unless Virgin have a price promise.

Most major airlines don't offer a price promise - you pays your money you takes your chance. Would you be happy to pay extra had the flights gone up ?

The trick is not to check flight prices after you buy them - or alternatively wait until the week before your trip and check the price - chances are they'll be £700 more per person than you paid, so you'll have "saved" £2100

Look at it this way ..if the price had gone up £110 and they phoned you up to say would you pay the extra please sir ..what would you say

Why on earth do people check the price after booking a flight?

I always have a look and keep a check on prices for future reference - nowadays we nearly always fly ryanair and I can chart when the cheapest price is (within reason) so I can try and book around the same time the next year Also you get to know what the lowest price for a particular route/date is - a bit obsessive maybe but it enabled my family of 4 to get flights in summer holidays to Alicante and back from Valencia for £226 in total including priority boarding. obviously I'm only talking about small sums.

Its not actually a refund as such. Its a credit against future flights (to be purchased within 6 months of issue) I called them on Monday as our flights to Lanzarote had dropped in price & was given a £40 credit. I looked again this morning, & the price had dropped again. Another quick phone call saw me receive another £65 credit (she'd cocked that up though - it should have been more like £25, seems I got the £40 credit twice!). Only problem is you have to ring the sales line to book which is an 0905 number. Anyone know an alternative number?? I'm toying with the idea of ringing CS & hoping they'll book it!
