Dairy free chocolate gifts

My three year old daughter is lactose intolerant and whilst helping me make our pots of gold expressed a wish for chocolate coins!! It got me thinking about whether if I melted down some dairy free chocolate and got a coin maker, would that work or would this sort of chocolate go funny!?! Also I could do chocolate coated raisins etc. Has anyone had any experience of this? Does anyone know if you can get gold coloured foil?

yes theres no reason that wouldn't work we got an advent calendar and forced ourselves to eat the chocolate from it (open it at the top) then we melted chocolate and poured it into the mould so our son had a chocolate calendar that was suitable for him A friend did it with easter eggs asweel after buying an egg mould she made her son dairy free choc eggs

I find that some dairy free chocolate doesn't melt very well, but adding a dash of lactose free milk helps.
I've made the chocolate covered raisins etc no problem at all. You can also get dairy free drinking chocolate and works fine when added to a cake batter.

that's great thank you. Can you recommend any good chocolate? Do you know if I need to temper it before doing raisins etc. Also how far in advance of Christmas can I start? Sorry for all the questions!!0
