Is there a basic bank account which I can get phone insurance with? I tried to upgrade my Co-Operative account to Privilege but it wouldn't pass the test required. Is there anyway you guys can advise me off one that I could most likely be able to pass?

Yes, Natwest do something which is called, Advantage Blue, it can be linked to your, Step account, which is their basic bank account. I'd try them if you need Mobile Phone insurance. It costs £6.95 PCM

With really back history during my student days where they actually stopped my account and I had to pay back in instalments for NatWest, would I still be able to get it from them?0

do they do a credit check with these accounts?0

Yes they do and if you have previous bad credit it's highly unlikely they'd allow you a new account.
If it's purely mobile insurance that's needed would it not be more cost effective to buy a stand alone policy? Not researched it but I bet you can get one similar for £30-40pa.0 -
I was hoping to buy sim free phone with a sim only contract, where im only tied down for a year as the deals just get better day by day, and then look to pay atleast 25 a month and not 40, with insurance it'd cost me another ten pounds, id be paying half if i had a bank account with phone insurance... i tried to upgrade my co op account but i was refused for some reason even tho I put in 2 grand nearly every month into it0

Yes. But I what I'm saying is you can buy mobile phone insurance with no link to a bank account and it will cost you less than £6.95x12.
Simple sums tell you this is a cheaper option and the only one if you don't pass the credit checks required for a full account.0
