    As you are not covered by the deposit protection rules in this case I would recommend not paying the last month's rent and letting your deposit cover it. Some posters might disagree with me but if they choose to steal your deposit it will be an annoying and probably protracted fight to get it back.

    Since they are looking to rebuild the property, they will probably want to sell the flats when they have been rebuilt. Therefore, if you had to go to court to get your deposit back, a judgement could be made that placed a charge on the properties before they were sold. Of course, if the new LL is just renting them out, there will also be an income that the courts could get you money from.
