Does anyone know of any device that can be connected to a PC to allow REAL TIME communication to be carried out over a phone line ?
I mean - for the user to type away in response at the same time as listening to the person on the other end of the phone ?
Obviously - either a Stephen Hawkins type device - or some other way of translating typed words to audio ....
Or is there some software available ?

No, not aware of anything, although that doesn't mean there isn't.

But is Instant Messaging an option, where you both type (sometimes at the same time!)?

I find it brilliant, although I can use the phone. I know some of my siblings chat on Facebook in the same way.

Or is the person at the other end not necessarily on a computer?

No - just at the end of a normal phone line
I have tried a text phone - but think that if I could type on my PC keyboard - this would be so much easier
If nothing exists - why not - come on you techies - please invent something.........

Would the RNID TalkByText work for you?

Sorry, it may be completely inappropriate but it came up in conversation the other day and I have no idea how it works but it might be worth investigating.
