Connecting Flights via ATLANTA

Afternoon all

Has anyone ever flew in the states (internal) where they have had to connect flights via ATLANTA ??
I did have a direct flight booked with Delta from Las Vegas down to Fort Lauderdale as part of my honeymoon, but Delta have cancelled that flight...
Other flight offered is flying to Atlanta, hanging around for 1hr 7 mins, then down to Fort Lauderdale...
My worries are 'what if' when it comes to our bags going from 1 plane to the next.... or missing the connecting flight, etc....

Be interesting to know if anyone has passed through that airport in a similar way ?

Perhaps add that 1 hour 7mins to the 2 hour check in time for the Spirit flight.

1hr checkin for Delta + 6hrs 40 mins travel via Atlanta
2hr checkin for Spirit + 4hrs 30 mins travel direct.....

Both have flaws as i need direct flights, and spirit seem to do well for customer dissatissfaction!
Because flights evolve around my honeymoon, ideally looking for 99% failproof stuff
So am now flying direct to Orlando, then a drive down to FLL
case closed.
