Why do the forests need saving?
Are the trees going to be cleared and houses built?0 -

Hmmmm If I recall such a policy ended rather badly for those responsible in The Lord of the Rings.....though I suspect even Ash would draw the line at predicting an attack on parliment by an army of Ents.
...Wouldn't he?Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
Why all the childish posts above?
Any way in a serious mode how will this affect land prices?
We were interested in a couple a acres of forest that seemed quite cheap a few years ago. Im sure it will be even cheaper now.
What about in a few years time I wonder?
Asheron posts a lot of dire warnings. Most of us are a bit fed up with being told we are all going to hell in a handcart, that's all, especially as we know we are...;)
Selling off Forestry Commission woodland will probably not make an impact on land prices generally, nor even alter the cost of woodland specifically. One might as well argue that if the market were flooded with homes above £2m this would impact sales of ex-council houses in Corby.
It's a matter of scale and target purchasers.
I also doubt a sudden increase in the number of Centre Parcs and golf courses. A majority of forestry now owned by the FC would not lend itself to either, due to location and/or underlying topography.0 -

It would save on special effects costs though if the Hobbit ends up being filmed over here.
I still can't quite believe Tim from the Office is going to be Bilbo Baggins. Is he going to put the One Ring in jelly? Sauron doesn't trust it apparently.0
