how to find the right financial advisor?

Sorry if posted in wrong forum, but in theory this is a mortgage question.
Okay, we have decided that we really should speak to an independent financial advisor.
we have one property, want to buy another one, so we want to get mortgage that best suits are needs.
We have final salary pensions and want to work out how to retire as early as possible ( well who wouldn't)
Also we want to understand any taxes we may be liable for.
How do we find the right person and should we find one that specialises in a certain field.
What sort of price would they charge?

Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.

Actually, you are probably better off speaking with a mortgage adviser rather than an IFA. Most IFAs will employ or have access to whole of market or independent mortgage advisers. However, nowadays, more IFAs do not transact mortgages than those that do. You cant really be a jack of all trades, master of none anymore and that is what an IFA is likely to be if you used one.
If you contact an IFA and ask them if they have a mortgage adviser, then you should be fine. If they do have dedicated mortgage advisers then the IFA and mortgage adviser can liaise between them the bits of advice that you need sorted. ie IFA does pension, mortgage adviser does mortgage (that model is probably the most common now)What sort of price would they charge?
Varies massively. Rural locations tend to be cheaper than city. However, apart from that generalisation its impossible to say without asking some first.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Ask around colleagues / family.
For mortgage advisors I'd suggest ringing a few up, ask a) are they independent, b) are they whole of market, c) what their charging structure is. As well as this information, you'll get a feel for them and whether you think you can work with them / they listen to you / you like their approach etc.0
