MSE ways to grow hair quickly

Hey all!

First post/thread so be gentle!
I got my hair cut short in...I wanna say March of this year, then got totally bored of it and I'm trying to grow it long again(I do this all the time and never learn!)

But I'm so impatient and want my hair to grow quicker! It's half-way between chin and shoulder length (neck-length?!) if you know what I mean, and it's got to that stage for me where random bits stick out no matter how much I try to straighten it. My hair is straight when it's long, but when it's growing out it does whatever it pleases lol

I've recently bought some shampoo and conditioner called FAST, which is meant to make your hair grow faster, and has all these vitamins and such your hair needs to grow healthy. I have been using it about...2 weeks now and have noticed my hair is so shiny and soft (which it used to be before I stupidly bleached it :( ) although whether it's grown any faster I can't tell yet.

However, this is £20 a go, and apparently only lasts around a month or so. I can't afford that kind of thing every month, and was wondering if anyone has a cheaper way of helping my hair grow faster? Not expecting miracles but a kick up the bum for it would be great!

Thanks guys :)

Lesley

I find biotin supplements work quite well (you can get them cheap from Boots). They give you healthy hair and nails, and with less hair breakage your hair appears to grow faster. Use a nourishing shampoo and conditioner (I like Aussie products but different products work for different people) and be gentle with your hair. Avoid heat styling tools, combing when wet and elastic hair ties that can rip out the hair.

I found it helped to experiment when growing out my hair. Try different ways of pinning bits back to hold layers that fall in your face or adjust your parting Simple changes can make it look a lot better in the awkward stages. As it gets longer treat yourself to new hair accessories.

You may also want to consider hair extensions. I bought a ponytail clip in, which is relatively cheap and can clip into short hair. You only need to be able to do a stumpy ponytail to get one in, and they hold very well. I've used them countless times and the only people who ever noticed it wasn't my real hair were other people who wore them! Just be sure to get an accurate colour match :)

I've probably said the majority of it already but I wrote an article here with advice on how to grow hair longer:

    Thanks Fuzzy_Duck!
Haven't heard of Biotin before, I must have a look in Boots for it. I have started taking multi-vitamins which I heard helps, but something more geared towards hair would definitely be better.

I was wearing a wig for a while when my hair was very short, but I think that actually slowed down the growth a little as it didn't get as much fresh air etc round it if that makes sense?

Clip in ponytails could be an option, although finding a match for my hair could prove difficult as I henna it and it's a unique reddish-brown now :) was bright postbox red thanks to bleach and manic panic hair dye, so the henna is brighter in some areas than others as the bleach is taking ages to get fully out. Though it sounds bad it actually looks really good lol

Not sure about the lack of straighteners...will have to think about that or my hair might look even more crazy as more of it sticks out!

  • Use Aussie hair products! My girlfriend buys them and I use them too. They make your hair feel great and I have noticed my hair has become a lot longer over the past few months!

I use sea kelp to make my hair grow and I have seen a difference. I got 250 tablets for £1.99 from Holland & Barrett (half price sale).

Since money is a little tight I'm trying to go longer between cuts (I used to go every 6 weeks ) so I use the organix split end cream and also an intensive conditioner once a week.

I only straighten my hair when I'm goin out and when I do I make sure I spray my hair thoroughly with a heat defense spray. I love the GHD one but lee staffords are good too (and half the price)

ETA: Also, when shampooing your hair give yourself a little head massage. It will boost the blood flow to the area which shold give your hair a boost.

Bizarrely biotin worked really well on my hair, not so much on my nails! For the price though it's worth having a go- I think it's about £3 tops?

If you can stand cutting off a lock it's definitely worth sending to one of the companies with a wide range of extensions, as they'll do the matching for you :) I managed to find a brown/red/black mix when I had dark burgundy-brown hair which blended really well. I rather missed my black hair then, it was so much easier to buy extensions :rotfl:

Don't worry too much about the straightening, I gave in too! As long as you use heat defence spray and baby it otherwise it shouldn't make too much difference.

you guys are great, loads of tips to try here!
I do use a heat defense spray thingy, so hopefully that helps against the straighteners, and my hair is always super soft and shiny so it must be ok :p

Will try the Biotin and sea kelp, and will think about the Aussie stuff after I've used up this FAST shampoo thingummy :)

  • I second the sea kelp, but if you've ever had any problems with your thyroid you must not take it without getting medical advice.

Re the biotin, you'd be better off taking it as part of a timed release vitamin B complex- preferably with added vitamin C.

B vits are water soluble, which means they can't be stored in the body for long. Your body will flush out what is not absorbed from each tablet (this is why lots of people notice their pee turns green when they start taking vitamin B :rotfl:) If you go for a timed release version, you'll absorb more of it over a longer period of time. The vitamin C will help your body absorb and use the B vits.

I always thought that because it is dead when it starts growing, you couldn't alter the speed or thickness of your hair by conditioning, only the actual feel of it because you are smoothing the cuticle........

Maybe try some of the Tesco hair, nail & skin tablets - they are like the branded one whose name I can't remember but a lot cheaper, and will have the full balance of minerals & vitamins to help your hair to grow healthy.

Massage your scalp. It increases the blood flow to the area and thus results in quicker results apparently. I think nicole kidman had her head massaged daily to grow her hair long for something...
