Margaret Thatcher was born on the 13th October 1925.
The explosion at the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd which killed 439 miners took place on the 14th October 1913.
Close ....
... wait, you're not blaming that on her as well?0 -
But I thought Thatcher was a friend of Chile in the Pinochet days and that the current ruling party were descendents of the Pinochet / conservative tradition rather than the socialists?I think....0

I think its great, as evidence of hope triumphing over adversity. Whatever else people feel about Thatcher, I don't think she would feel that differently, though her dementia may be reducing her capacity for understanding the event.
I'm more intrigued by Chile's President, who came to power shortly after the earthquake and stewarded the country towards growth (as opposed to an earthquake induced shock as suggested by the IMF) and who with his Minister for Mining, has overseen the process in the same way as a CEO of a corporation (his background). Can anyone see Cameron standing at a minehead for 24 hours to shake hands with all those who emerged? When Buncefield exploded, Blair didn't even bother to make an appearance. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The only PM in my lifetime I can imagine doing that would have been Maggie. I remember a joke donor card doing the rounds in the mid-1980s stated on it, 'In the case of my hospitalisation I would/would not like to be visited by Margaret Thatcher'.0 -

I agree. I wasn't particularly a Maggie fan, but somewhat ironically at least she had the balls to lead from the front. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Ah, but the point is that the Senghenydd mining disaster didn't happen on Margaret Thatcher's birthday did it? You were a day out. So your attempt at a cheap shot was an epic fail.
If you have any issues regarding the exact timing of the Chilean rescue I suggest you address them to the OP.0
