Singles or Returns

We are going away for maybe a month and will be travelling with either Ryanair or Easyjet. As we are not certain how long we are going to be away...do we get single fares booking the outward flight here and the return journey when we are away. Or do we firm up on the dates now and get returns changing the dates if needed when we are away. Or will it all work out about the same price. Sorry if this is a repeat but I couldn't find anything. • They charge all flights per sector (one price for outbound, one price for inbound)
You can book one way flights with them, the only problem is if you want to change the date for a return flight you have to pay an admin fee PLUS the fare difference (e.g. you book a return flight at £50 for the inbound flight, the new flight date home is £100, so you pay the £50 difference, plus approx £50 admin fee Easyjet, Ryan Air are more)
You would be best to just book the one way flight then keep checking their website whilst away to see the cheapest flight home on the dates you can do..

If you are booking the return leg at short notice (say 14 days or less) bear in mind that Ryanair and easyJet fares just go up and up at that stage. Last minute Ryanair and easyJet flights are often more expensive than other airlines. If you are staying for a long time you also need to think about the extra luggage costs which are particularly high for Ryanair.

Ryanir and Easyjet don't have "return" fares - all fares are a single per sector journey. It just happens that when you book a return you get two singles. The price of the return leg is independent of the outward leg.

This is different to most scheduled airlines where the rules are much more complex and a single is often more expensive than a return.
