Travelling with newborn

Hi

My daughter is just 2 weeks old.

Is it safe to carry her in an infant car seat for 1.5 hour journey (each way with few hours gap between going and coming back)?

We brought our newborn (3days) back to Yorkshire from Scotland where he was born. 3+ hours. No problem as far as I can see.

Fine so long as you have a car seat whih is exactly right. Especially if you time the drivn to fit her feeds and naps.

The current 'advice' at the moment is that a newborn should be kept lying flat at all times. The reason is that when they are newborn they do not have the muscle strength to safely maintain an elevated position for any length of time.
When using car seats etc they should be used for no more than 2hours at any one time with a long period of lying flat in between.
So if you are only travelling in the car for about 1 1/2 hours and you lie your little one flat inbetween you are doing everything you can for your little one.
Yes you can get special car seats that allow them to lie flat in the car but they are very expensive and really only worth it if travelling distances is to be a really regular thing.
