Star Now/Sell Your Story/TV casting rip off

You may've seen the link to the StarNow.co.uk site on the "Sell Your Story" thread (which has subsequently gone a bit off-topic to discuss freelance journalism, which is why I'm making a new post; if you've clicked through wanting to sell a personal story to magazines, you might not read through that other convo to the more recent comments).
We just signed up to Star Now in application for a game show and it turns out that you have to pay to even apply for the casting!
I used to be an extra and several of my friends still work in TV, and I can assure you that reputable casting/extras agencies only take a percentage of the wage you receive IF you get hired & paid - they don't ask for money up front.
Otherwise they could just fabricate casting calls and reap the application fees without ever hiring anyone.
So this is one to avoid, methinks. If you want to sell your story, Google "sell my story" - loads of agencies come up - make your enquiries and if any of them ask for cash up front, just say "howzabout no!" and move on
If it's a really unusual one, try contacting magazines direct.
For casting, The Casting Collective supplies extras to most London production companies, with whom they have long-standing business relationships. They open their London books once a year but regional applicants can register all year round.
Good luck,
Suzie
