Overdrawn Bank Account

And it's not mine!

Today I received about the 3rd letter from Lloyds TSB for a 'Mr Istvan', at a glance when it was on the mat I assumed it was me and just went ahead and opened it (oops).

Anyway, hes £381.09 overdrawn, and being charged £15 daily, this is about as I said, the 3rd time we've received a letter from them, my mum being a bit keener to check mail as its usually not for her has sent them to the undelivered address on the back.

What should I do?

Phone them and inform them they have the wrong address?

Ignore it?

Return to sender?

Return to sender is the best bet to stop the mail coming, Lloyds will then mark him as gone away and refer it to their internal trace people
  • Its deffo something dodgy though as we have lived in this house for over 40 years? Its not like a previous occupant or anything.
  • Try and sort it out quickly, before Lloyds "sell" the debt to a third party.

Once a debt is sold to a private collection agency, they simply mail all the addresses to death with threatening letters, and when they have 'milked' as much as they can, they sell the remaining debts (for 5 pence in the £ or something) to yet another debt collection agency that will start doing the same thing.

In all these circumstances is is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to prevent these mailings. They are irritating, but will generally never be followed up with any adverse problem to yourselves.

Write to the Bank - reinforcing your 40 year tenure.

Then check your credit reports ....... just in case the mystery man is trying to set up accounts using more of your data than just the address.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • My Mum has just informed me '02' have sent a similar letter for a phone bill/contract - although she didn't open it so it could have possibly been one of those 02 credit cards?

It's not under our name though which is what has confused me.

    Help?

I doubt they have damaged my personal credit, or my mums for that matter, as I have just bought a new car on HP, and she has just opened another store card for Wallis.

I'm having the same problem with someone having a BT bill sent to my house. I have quite a unique address with an unusual house name so don't understand it ...
There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word which means more to me than any other. That word is England.

As you now have 2 x separate companies contacting your 'lodger' ..... it's clearly not just a change of address that's gone wrong.

I wouldn't 'doubt' on potential of damage to your credit report - I would check it.

The plot thickens! Today we had an Carphone Warehouse contract through the door....my Mum opened it by mistake and it turns out our friend has now got a nice shiny iPhone 4 under our address.

On the way into Birmingham she popped into Lloyds to drop the bank statement off, and the lady called her into a private office - profusely apologized and accidentally dropped that the account was opened in September...!? I do NOT understand in the slightest how someone can open a bank account in September, yet we haven't received his debit card or pin, or any other communications you would get from a bank from you first open an account?! All we've had is an un-arranged overdraft fee's letter? It's as if hes migrated his accounts to our address rather than setup an account in address?

Really at a loss of what to do. Might check Experian tonight to see if anything suspect is on there...

    What a weird carry-on

However ... I found a video of ►Mr Istvan ... could it be the elusive one?
