in Credit cards
Hi,
I went into town today to get a contract phone (£7.50 a month- 200mins and 100txts) and i was turned dowen because of credit rating. I cant think why though, ive never had any debt, and never had a contract phone before. I am 19 and a student. How can my credit rating be bad enough to be turned down? Could it be anything to do with my mum is in the process of moving house and the fact we did the credit check on my old house?
Also, should i get a credit card to try and boost my credit rating? Any help is very appreciated,
Thanks, Ryan

best get a copy of your credit file to see what it says.
are you on the electoral roll at the same address as the one you gave the phone co.?
a credit card, paid off each month will provide a record of correctly handled debt that will enhance your credit score.0 -
Find out which credit checking agency they used (usually Equifax or Experian) then head over the the appropriate website and request a statutory report (cost £2) so you can see what information they have on file. There is also a money saving way to get this report free.
Also the 'credit rating' is a myth as each company has its own rules for getting a rating so your good rating at one place could be bad elsewhere. You just need to check that the information on your records is correct.

Hi ryansace,
I got a contract phone from phones 4U last October, a month ago they phoned me to come and look at new offers. I went in where they then turned me down. The person who the advisor spoke to on the phone told him that I was unable to take out any phone with Phones 4U. They wouldn't say why and didn't say to check the credit reference agency. I was embarassed, and checked my credit report for free(thanks to this website) and believe it's sopmething to do with someone in my old house whom appears on my credit file for some unknown reason). It may not be anything to do with you, so as others say, check your file. By the way, Phones 4U lost a good customer, as I just went to 02 directly and they dealt with me directly. Although this would not be any good to you as you are not an existing customer, but it may help in the future.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
