    With a blown up clutch surely it's worth 2500 - 1000?

Anyway, more details needed so people can be of help.

get a cheap fix and return it under the termination clause of your HP agreement.
  • Does it have a dual-mass flywheel (i.e. like most modern Mondeos etc) because most clutches can be done for a lot less than that.

Does it still drive at all?

If it does, put it in a car auction.

    Best of luck

Type of car would be nice to enable us to assist with advice on how to get car fixed cheaper.....

    More details needed!!
Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
  • I think £1000 seems about right,if the clutch went on the motorway, then it's probably destroyed the clutch housing and flywheel. If it was in gear, which I'm guessing it was it may have thrown the syncros out in the gearbox.

It sounds like the clutch may have been on it's way out,but you should have noticed it start to slip.

Anyway,I doubt that you will get anywhere with finance, cars don't last forever they need to be repaired now and again. If the car was fine when you first bought it then they didn't sell you it when it was unfit for purpose.

    Just my opinion..

I would agree with this in this case if it's a matter of wear and tear but just because a fault doesn't seem to be apparent at the point of sale doesn't mean that an inherent fault doesn't exist.

I doubt any of the recent Meriva drivers thought there was a problem with their cars when they bought them but it doesn't mean the fault wasn't going to pop up at some point.

  • As we don't have many details, I was making assumptions that she has had the car 2years based on the average car finance term and 1 year remaining.
If the problem was there when they bought the car,the issue would have reared it's head well before now, as the clutch and clutch plate are one of the most stressed parts on the car.

I've got quite abit of experience around cars, and in my personal opinion it seems the clutch was already on it's way out a few months ago,and the clutch has just gave on the motorway. It just sounds like a normal case of wear and tear, but in cases of clutches they should be replaced before they fail.

If it was easier to send the car back to a finance company when parts fail after a few years use,I'm sure we would all be doing it.

    Just my two pence worth.
