Neighbours Dogs

Not sure of this is the right place to post so feel free to move.

We moved into our new house just over a month ago, we have friends who live in the same development and we were familiar with the area and some of the other neighbours.

Long story short, ended up moving into a house in the development we are renting, love it and the area. Apart from next doors dogs.
Its mainly 1 of their dogs making all the noise, this is during day and night, it does not go into the house at all. Its got to the point I am not able to sleep through the night because of it and due to being unwell I really need to sleep and I AM NOT taking sleeping tablets because of a !!!!!!! dog but I have thought about it.
My OH went and had a nice word with the lady next door, who is lovely, but it was a case of " if the dogs annoying you then keep shouting at it or pour water on it". Its a guard dog and they like it to bark at night, but this is a built up area!
I don't know what to do next, go down the legal route and report them and then fall out with them or do nothing?
When it gets too much for me I go out and yell, scream and shout but it makes little difference sometimes.
I don't want to fall out with any one but it is really getting us down and making our new home a place we don't like that much now.
I am going to say to the letting agent next week when she is out.
Anyone got any advice?

  • Yes - report these people to the RSPCA. This dog is being mistreated, no dog should constantly live outside and make this much noise. It's unfair on you having to listen to it in a residential area and it's unfair on the poor animal. You can report this anonymously, if there are a lot of people living nearby then anyone could have reported it.

Report it to your local council - see http://www.arun.gov.uk/cgi-bin/buildpage.pl?mysql=80#barking

Unless it has no access to food/water or shelter or being mistreated (keeping a dog outside is NOT mistreating it) , i mean being beaten or starved then it's nothing to do with the RSPCA , i know I used to work for them taking the cruelty calls .

If the dog is in good health and has the above then it is a matter for Enviromental Health , noise pollution department of your local council .

It's blooming annoying though barking all the time , my 1 yr old Cavalier !!!!! has a mega problem with barking in our garden , as soon as she goes out there she just starts barking her head off so I have to stand out the with her as this is the only thing that shuts her up . I am a dog lover but can't abide constant barking so I do feel for you

  • Please don't pour water of the dogs. Bad owner! I totally symphatize with you. We have new neighbours who have two enormous dogs that bark a lot. It makes me a bit nervous.
I never realized how much personal info is out there that can be used and abused to suit every purpose.

Contact your local Dog Warden, that's what they're there for and what you pay Council Tax for.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

No they are not , they deal with lost , stray and dangerous dogs not issues with barking .

  • Thorsoak and Natalie are right, you need to report this to your local council as noise pollution. They will send you a diary sheet to fill in to track when the noise is occurring and give you the number of one of their officials who can come out and witness the noise. I know - been there, done that.

As I said before I am a dog lover but constant barking drives me insane ! This is the reason I stand out in my garden with my dog , a constant barker, if it drives me potty then what does it do to my neighbours .

If your friend owns her house see if she has a copy of the deeds - most developments state only one domestic pet allowed per house.;)

Ask her to keep the dog inside at night and state if it doesn't stop you will report her to the development owners with a view to legal action.

might sound extreme, but a barking dog is hard to sleep through - they wouldn't like it it people left kids to play out all the time screaming and shouting, would they, so why do it with a noisy dog?
