best pre-paid card for foreign withdrawls

I am about to ditch my Nationwide Flex account, does anyone have a recommendation for a pre-paid card for foreign withdrawls - I'd like to load up a card with funds and not pay much fro withdrawls

thanks

  • to answer my own question I found this one to be the best for my needs, I go to lots of developing world countries and no withdraw fees are essential.

This has also confused me. I am looking for a prepaid card for my daughter to take to Australia with her so I am assuming I would need a Sterling card?
Martins best buy shows the FairFx card as the best but whilst it has the better rates it also has a £1.50 ATM fee which the Caxton card doesn't have.
Can anyone explain why the Fair FX is the recommended buy?

The Sterling card doesn't have the ATM fee. Anyway there is no £1.50 fee.

Sorry I seem to be making things up again - I did say I was confused!
Am I right in thinking FairFX charge 1.5% when you use the ATM with a Sterling card?

Yes. Rate is Mastercard rate, you pay commission of 1.5% of any spend on this card.

After the debacle with crown currency would anyone in their right mind prepay a card in advance?

I was going to start using prepaid cards when abroad since Nationwide started charging but now I will just use my debit card in an ATM for cash and credit card for buying things and keep my money in my bank account where at least I will get it back if the bank goes bust.

I get on the the internet to top it up with a bit then go to the ATM and take it out, simple. Wasn't it the BIG banks that nearly went under
over the last couple of years.

Pre-paid card are completely different since the customer funds are held in separate accounts at either Newcastle Building Society (Fairfx, Canton, etc.) or RBS (Cashplus). Customers would only lose their funds if NBS or RBS fails.
