Hello all,

I am off on honeymoon next week and got tickets from thomas cook a ew days ago. Just noticed they put us in economy restrcited (to Australia!) and our invoice originally said economy (nothing about restricted!!). Before I ring I want to know my rights. Any advice?

Thanks.

What did you book/think you had booked with them?
Did you ask for or want fully flexible tickets?

restricted refers to the conditions for changing your flights - not to service/seating in the aircraft.

I booked economy. Nothing was mentioned about restricted economy - which is the cheapest tickets. Reading forums it seems with cathay pacific it does mean restricting seats you can have... I guess I could be wrong. Also says chances of upgrading are much slimmer even if you want to pay on the day?

I doubt you have any cause to complain unless Thomas Cook did something against your specific wishes.

If you paid for economy flights then that is what you got.

If you wished to fly on a different class then you should have made that clear.

You could check exactly what restrictions are in place with TC.

Ok - fair enough. Its just restricted was never mentioned. As long as they still let us choose our seats (we are getting there really early). Some forums said its seating at the back of the plane only and thats bumpy?

I did ask TC at the time if we could upgrade on the day if I wanted and they said that wouldnt be a problem so guess I should just phone airline and see what they say...

Just panicking as Im stressed - wedding this weekend! lol. Dont want any hiccups... :)

Different airlines and flights have different ways of configuring planes so economy seats on one flight may not be necessarily in the same place as on others.

You can find more info which may help here

  • Restricted just refers to the ability to make changes to your reservation. Economy is economy at the end of the day. Your seating will be allocated on a first come first served basis irrespective of restrictions on your ticket.

    Enjoy the wedding AND honeymoon!

As passengers can choose their seats by checking in on-line 48 hours in advance I'm not sure arriving early at the airport will give you a great choice of seats.

I think they're hoping for an upgrade as its their honeymoon, therefore checking in online wouldnt be an option.

Yeah - something like that. As unlikely as it is! Especially as we have economy restricted

Also cant book certain seats (eg emergency exits) in advance.

Can I not choose seats online then change if needs be on the day? Havent done this in ages... :o
