Being sterilised today.

Being Sterillised today , am realy scared , feels like part of me being a woman is being taken from me , it worries me ,
Even though i'm 38 , have 4 beautiful children , 15 yr, 14 yr , 13 yr and a 7 month old,
My baby is one of the reasons why , he wasnt planned , and was a big shock , and after having a really rough time through the pregnancy with ovarin cyst , emergency operation at 15 week pg, not knowing if me or baby was gonna survive ,
a scar from belly button to bikini line , and it not healing for 6 weeks ,
I can never go through such a awful time again , at the mo having no sex drive due to being so scared i will fall pg again,
I know its for the best , but still .....

Anyone else have any thoughts or been through this and feeling like i am ?

Hi. It's much easier for your partner to be sterilised. However, assuming you have ruled that out for a valid reason, all the best for today. I'm sure you will be fine <hugs>. xxx
  • All the best, you would not be human if you didnt have doubts/worries. I am sure lots of people will agree you are doing the right thing.

    Take care

  • Hi there

I can sympathise with you having been through similar experience with my first born(she is now in her twenties :) ) I also had emergency op with ovarian cysts at 11 weeks pregnant.

I also have a big age gap between my last one and other children -11 years.

But I think you will feel so much better when you don't have the awful worry of falling pregnant again and have that control back in your life..

Thinking of you today - ((hugs)) on their way.

you have my sympathies Nikki. I think you are just experiencing a natural dose of cold feet. You have thought about why you want sterilised and decided it's the best option for you, your Dr agrees. Everything will be fine. Once you have healed your sex drive will return as it anxiety about falling pregnant that is blocking it. You will not be less of a woman or anything like that. Really it will be fine.

Thanks guys , because i was 15 weeks pg at the time of the op for the ovarian cyst they could only drain it ,it was very big at 8cm x 8cm x 4 cm , and for the past 6 weeks have been having pains , so while they sterilising they will see if cyst has returned if so they will try and remove it properly. this time ,

  • Although i have not gone through a similar situation myself i think the feelings your experiencing are completely understandle, your bound to be nervous, try and think of the reasons why your doing it and keep positive, your doing it to keep yourself and your family unit in a secure, safe and happy place, wishing you lots of luck :grouphug:

  • Hi Nikkit - I'm sure you'll be fine and will enjoy your new freedom from the fear of pregnancy after! Surgery (even minor surgery) can be absolutely nerve-racking, so what you're feeling is totally normal. It really is a minor procedure - I've seen African ladies (who often have had 7-10 kids by the time they come in!) get up and walk miles back home as soon as they are done!

I had to have a hysterectomy at 36, was feeling very blue at the thought of no more babies even though I had 2 who were almost teens, it's natural to feel worried about any medical procedure but the advantages will out weight the disadvantages for you I hope . Good luck and get well soon...

I know its minor , ive had much more serious ops , its not the surgery what worries me , its what actually is being done to me , it seems so final , and its very hard to put things back to normal once all done.

My mum had a hysterectomy at 24 , and a friend of mine at 20 , i know how hard that was , and i am only having small op compared to that , and wont need hrt etc , but it still worries me . I was fine 6 months ago when i saw consultant etc , ive only been getting nervous since the short notice call on Thursday to say op today
