I wrote on a different thread yesterday about my problems with NTL continuing to take money since I have left them, and my problems getting any of that money back through the Direct Debit guarantee scheme.
As it has not been replied to, I thought it may be because I stuck it on the end of an old thread.
here is a link to it

Please reply on either this or the above thread if you know anything about the Direct debit guarantee, or if you want to comment in any way!
Thanks

You can go to your bank and ask for a copy of their direct debit indemnity scheme. When you set up a DD with a company it is usually set up on a variable basis so that if the amounts vary there is no problem with the bank. The DD company should always advise you in advance what date the payment is going to come out of your account and how much that payment is going to be. If they fail to do so, or if you have cancelled your DD agreement you are entitled to a full and immediate refund from your bank and not from the company. It is then the job of the bank to get the money back from the company. This involves quite a lot of form filling in for the bank so they usually try and fob off the customer and tell them to approach the company.
If it was me I would check with the bank for leaflet on the DD indemnity scheme, it is a couple of years since I worked in the DD department of the Bank, but I don't think the terms have changed. If you get no joy tell them you will go to the banking ombudsman, they will have to give you a leaflet on how to complain to them if you ask for one. Hope this helps0 -
This happened to us too, after a couple of minths I phoned them up asking what the hell was going on, and got a right stroppy girl on the phone who was no use whatsoever.
The money that was taken out of our account after our cut off date was refunded eventually - what I can gather it is something that they do. I'll never go through NTL again.
Hope you get it sorted.
