New Scam for Internet banking

It appears that those who wish to take your log in details over the last few months have changed their tact. I know they used to ask you to verify your login details and visit a website. This was normally due to a so-called loss of information or upgrade. Their emails normally were very badly written, in the grammatical sense.
A new one that was stopped by my ISP, BT Yahoo, today said that my bank wished to check that the my computer was 'compatable' and I should visit a website to download a checker to do this for me.
Naturally, I did not do this! I would advise anyone else who banks on the internet, not to download any file or visit any webpage that purports to be from a bank. The bank cancerned was US Bank in this email, but could be copied to yours
Be wary out there folks!

it tickles me when they send these scams to a differant email to the one registered with the bank, same goes for all the viruses i keep receiving attached to emails telling me "you must read this..."
>:( stupid scammers0 -
Indeed. The 100% foolproof method is to not give the bank your email address in the first place. They do NOT need it: most banking sites have messages and news item,s displayed on the logon screen. If they absolutely must contact you with anything important or pressing then they can use that. Or write a letter. There is NO technical reason for a bank with an online banking website to ever need to send you an email.
Then any email which purports to be from a bank will definitely be fraudulent. No judement required, everyone who receives it knows it is a fraud, no-one will think it is genuine. The only truly secure solution to the problem.
Of course the banks don't want a truly secure solution - they want your email address so that they can spam you with marketing. Fight back and don't give it to them!0 -
Hi,
I don't know if this is the place but the scammers are getting more clever. I've just got an email that appears to link directly with the genuine bank site but seems to go via an IP address in Korea. I suspect they collect your detals as you log on. It's very hard to spot.0 -
On Saturday I ended up with a trojan dialer on my PC..How the hell it got there I don't know >>i only use the PC (and no I'm not big on visiting el filtho smutty porno sites ;D)...
The worrying aspect was it got past my virus checker (AVG) ..it still told me I was logging onto Wanadoo dial up but I just noticed it had changed my ID ever so slightly.
Every time I deleted it and changed it ..it reappeared so eventually I ended up reformatting and installing my PC..
I reckon I ran up a bill of £14 which at the end of the day is a bummer but it could have been a lot worse..it was dialling some island in the south pacific at £1.50
...I'm getting seriously worried about this Internet..whats to stop some spyware or something recording my details when I log onto my Internet banking and clearing the account???The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
Try using Firefox instead of I.E. as it has a very efficient pop up stopper as well as being more secure in other ways. Nortons firewall also has one. If one misses it the other one doesn't. I don't know if you use Ad-aware, Spybot search and destroy and Spywareblaster. All are essential to getting rid of these dodgy programs. Essential reading.
Why computers these days don't come loaded to the gunwhales with these programs I'll never know.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
