buymobilephones claims vouchers

Hi there, was wondering if anyone could help on this

Got a new 18 month free deal from these guys a few months ago. Have to now send my first 4 bills in for my first claim, they have to be in within 60 days, I have only a few days left to send this as I assumed it was the first 6 months for some reason.

Anyway I called buymobilephones as i needed the claims vouchers that did not come with the original documents only to be told that I had I not claimed these within the first 14 days of my contract I would not be able have them!

What do I do, anyone had a similar experience.

Please help guys

  • If you haven't read and abided by the T&Cs then you are probably screwed. This is how these companies make their money.

    Might I suggest reading this...

This is one of the major problems with BMP's - claim vouchers!!!!!!
Each voucher also has an unique code as well. I always scan and save a copy and also email myself a copy and save it in my "BMP" folder.
Looks like you have no chance now as the T&C's state you need to inform them within 14 days of any missing vouchers. Unless you can prove the T&C's are unfair, you are wasting your time.

Are you absolutely certain they didn't come with the phone? They are on poor quality, thin paper so I suggest you double-check. The 14 days is only IF they are missing from the phone package when it arrives. Mine have always been included and I would have acted immediately if they had not been. If not, kiss goodbye to all your cashback and learn from the experience. "I assumed it was the first six months" shows quite vividly that you had no real idea of what you were doing and should NOT have embarked on any cashback deal in the first place.

Forgive them, mobilejunkie, for they know not what they do. ;)

  • I do; not my money! You're right, of course - they know not what they do (so shouldn't bloody well be doing it!).

    Just an update.

After a good bit of rummaging around I found the vouchers, They were folded four times over and right at the bottom of the box under all the bubble wrap where my cheap nokia that they sent me with the sim has been. sat all this time. They have been sent today special delivery and should be with BMP with a few days to go, phew.

As far as casbback deals go I have done several and this is the first time I have ever come this close to messing up.

Mobilejunkie, thanks for the dressing down. With replies like that I can see why some newbies could be intimidated to post on here. I can understand what you are saying but maybe no need to be as blunt hey?

The vouchers are just another obstacle to avoid paying advertised cashback payments. It looks like it has worked with this poor customer and probably with lots of others to be fair.
The positive is that it warns others and may help future purchases.
LOOK AFTER YOUR VOUCHERS WHEN BUYING FROM BUYMOBILEPHONES.

Edit: Excellent news - I bet this won't happen again with you. lol

You see, MJ, this is what I am talking about. Your experience is invaluable, but you have a way of writing that reeks of smugness and self-acclaimed superiority.

We know that you have, probably, more experience of this subject than anyone else on here. But you don't need to ram it down people's throats. People approach a national company expecting that, like in most other fields, they will be dealt with fairly. Now regular contributors know that the mobile resellers make their money out of failed claims.

But you can not expect every person for the first time to know this, nor can you expect everyone in Britain to be a reader of this sub-forum even before they take out their first contract.

As I said, your advice is absolutely invaluable, but your style and smugness devalues you as an oracle and I do wonder if it is the desire to help is your main reason to be on here, rather than a platform to promote your own position as "the master".

It is a great shame as you are a font of advice, but I have lost count of the number of MSE members who came on asking for advice and got a MJ put-down coupled with self-promotion instead.

I do hope you take this on board.

As opposed to you spending months and months giving another "national" company (these two aren't anything of the sort!) the "benefit of the doubt", thus encouraging all these "assuming" people to do business with them? Then (only now) giving the very same warning and advice (while I was away) I have been giving consistently (and as an actual customer, which you weren't until quite recently!) for all of that time?

Instead of lecturing people who actually DO give VERY clear, consistent, knowledgeable advice why not go and find "Ben" instead (if you can!?); you used to encourage and give succour (sorry, support!) to him while he was spouting his absolute nonesense. You thought his advice so good you made a long list of excuses for him when it plainly didn't live up to what he put on his tin! I am not the only one you criticise for both WHAT I say AND how I say it - and it's always those who actually do know what they are talking about and who try to PREVENT such problems whom you criticise.

In this case the OP admits they have used cashback deals before (therefore they have no excuse!), didn't understand the t&c for at least FIVE months after they took it out, then went on to FIND the forms they didn't think they had - which is exactly what I had suggested they do in the first place.

Now, really - if THEY can get so much wrong, what help is it to those with NO experience to sympathise with such an approach and make them feel better?

As I've responded to such lectures before (and I really thought you'd grown out of giving them), anyone who prefers bad advice (as you occasionally provide) in a nicely wrapped up format should ignore my posts. Those who actually want to a) do it right in the first place and b) know how to recover their situation and c) actually know if it is irrecoverable can read on. It's a free world and there's nought worse than BAD advice however good the giver's intentions may be!

I stand by my previous post. You are incapable of understanding that you constantly write in a superior , put down manner, however knowledgeable you may be.

As for advice - The manner in which I offer this (on any subject that I have experience of) is, I hope, less "put the other person down" than you. Your comment ""I assumed it was the first six months" shows quite vividly that you had no real idea of what you were doing and should NOT have embarked on any cashback deal in the first place." is fairly typical, if not mild, and the OP's comment sums up just what the problem is. The rest of your post was helpful and accurate, but why the sting in the tale??

And then the conspiratorial follow up "I do; not my money! You're right, of course - they know not what they do (so shouldn't bloody well be doing it!)." All unnecessary digs at the OP.

Which would you rather be thought of - the helpful guru or "Here's old big head banging on about how clever he is again?"

You have the knowledge to be the first - you need to change your attitude to lose the second. Just contrast your approach with Lynsey's.

Regretfully, no time to continue this as it's my turn to be away for a little while. But just reflect on the matter.
