turned down for loan - wrong info on cr file

???
hope someone can help!

I recently applied for a loan with my bank but was turned down. Requested file from Equifax which showed default from o2. The phone in question had been returned within specified time and I've never owed them anything.
I rang o2 two week ago who said they would remove the wrong info within 7 days. Asked if they could do this sooner as I had set up another meeting with bank. o2 promised to do this immediately.
Had meeting with bank then received a letter from them today still declining loan application.... all down to o2.
Have again spoken to o2 who have again promised to move the incorrect info on my credit file.
Does anyone know where I stand with this?

Dont know where you stand but is it worth asking O2 to send you an imediate letter confirming their mistaken entry on your credit report and asking them for a reference name so if you have any future meetings whomever you are with can ring them to double check these facts?

I am in the midst of hassles with O2 so hope they don't do the same to my files!

    Good luck

    :)
  • Hi there
new to the site.Mez did you have the phone on a contract and had you been paying? I only asked has I have just finished a row with O2 which lasted over a year!!!! Briefly I was rung up to see if I wanted to change from Orange to O2 I said send me info to look at. They sent 2!!!! complete brand new phones inc sim cards.Sent them both back and received a couple of bills.Rang up and explained and thay canx one of the contracts. They then started sending threating letters because I had broken the agreement!!!! lokking for a£1k
for the 2 contracts. This went on for over a year but in all that time nothing was lodge on my credit record I have checked. If you did not receive info from a solicitor that they were taken you to court you should not have the mark.
They used about 6 different solicitor's firms to chase me.I sent them all and O2 the stroppies letter in the end threating them all with legal action.
Got 2 bills last week with credits on and no outstand balance.
    hope this helps.

    24v_gaz,

    thanks for replying!

The phone was on contract, purchased through one stop phone shop, but a promised accesory was missing. After being fobbed off and lied to/called a liar by one stop, I returned the phone to them well within the given time.

I received a couple of bills from o2 for the rental - even though I hadn't used the phone one bill showed that it had been used after I'd returned it! - so contacted o2 and eventually they left messages on our phone to say that they'd sorted it out and wouldn't be sending anymore bills. Then I got another bill last month stating that I was in credit? ::) ::)

I didn't get any threatening letters/letters from solicitors just the default on my credit report.

They've admitted that it's their fault and are going to remove it but won't even confirm this in writing for me to show the bank (re the loan refusal) . :-/

o2 didn't seem very bothered to be honest. >:(

  • Bit of a conicidence here... Had an O2 online contract for 12 months, cancelled it after this time to move to T-Mobile. Everything went smoothly, sith O2 billing me as normal etc.

Then I decided, out of sheer curiosity, to try Equifax's online credit scoring tool, just to see how I score. I've never had credit problems, always paid on time (apart from a payment that was a month late in 1999) and Barclaycard were only too happy to give me a Platinum credit card with a £5k limit on it a few weeks ago.

So I thought my score would be good. But to my horror, and amazement, my O2 account had been marked as default! I've received nothing from O2 to suggest I had missed any payments, which is something I had assumed they would do before taking the step of registering a default on an account (if anyone can confirm or deny this I'd be extremely grateful).

I immediately phoned their customer services dept (on their hugely inflated 50p per minute phone line, punishment for being an online customer!!) who told me that my bills had, in fact, been paid up in full, and they could see no reason whatsoever why I would have beeen marked as default.

They gave me the number of the finance dept, but they only seem to be able to handle payments... So I've written to the complaints department. This has left me livid, to be quite honest. If payments had been missed, it would have been because O2 hadn't collected the direct debit (I never cancelled DDs with my old bank as it cost £7 to do so!!!) and my credit rating is obviously going to suffer as a result. Still waiting on O2 to respond...

If anyone has any advice as to how sort this out, I'd love to hear it!!

    Phil
