Natwest Mastercard Identity theft protection

Evening All,
I seek your opinions...
I got a call from my Natwest about my Mastercard today offering me a product called Identity theft protection or similar at a cost of about £90 per year. This also included insurance against any losses incurred from identity theft, 'easy' access to my credit history and...legal costs cover up to 60k.
I wouldn't have given this much thought but I thought Identity theft ptoection would be standard protection on a credit card? is this a bum deal or typical across all banks/credit cards? FWIW, Natwest has really gone down the pan lately...
Also, any general guide on what do credit cards protect you from?
Thanks!

Simply write down the details (including phone/contact numbers on the back) of all your cards and keep it in a safe place should your cards get lost/stolen.
You're covered from £50 (though most will cover from £0) on any cards used fraudulently.
You can get your 'credit history' for £2 each from the 2 main Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs: Experian and Equifax)
Basically you can save yourself £90 (minus the cost of however many times you get the reports from CRAs.)
Natwest (not that they're the only ones doing this) are basically after money for old rope.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
Get a capital one credit card and you get it for free.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.
