Buy Now Pay (a lot more) Later

Hi, can anyone offer help/advice? I had several purchases on a buy now pay later offer with very.co.uk. I received a statement saying I needed to pay by 28th September to avoid paying any interest. I paid my balance off in full. When I received my latest statement, I had been charged nearly £70 in interest. I immediately telephoned to ask why and was told it was because I hadn't phoned to allocate the payments to my BNPL items. (I had some due August, then October). So despite paying well within the time frame, and paying my balance off, they have charged me this interest and wont remove it. Is there anything i can do or anywhere I can go to dispute this? Any help would be great, thanks.

it will be in their terms about allocation of payments. Argos do the same
  • I myself have stopped buying from Littlewoods group because of the complexity of the ''new'' BNPL scheme.
Read the T&C of the scheme - if it does not state plainly that you HAVE to phone to advise them then take up a formal complaint, and because they have offered you credit then you can take your complaint to the financial ombudsman.

It is very clearly explained in their T&C that you have to call to allocate your payment to BNPL items.... You cannot do it online

Yes I had £333 owing on BNPL and I had to telephone them to say I wanted to pay off the whole BNPL. Next statement my balance was nil with nothing to pay.

Even though it is in their terms and conditions it quite clearly states on the statement before it is due in bold letters "to avoid any interest simply pay the cash price of (insert price) in full before (insert date). To do this you MUST telephone and tell us your payment is for your BNPL items(s)."

I must say I was confused, how the whole BNPL worked. I assumed incorectly that as my account was £333 in credit, they would just take that off my account and that would be that, but that's not how it worked.

  • Thank you, it is so confusing, I'll be a lot more vigilant in reading terms and conditions in future. Although I will try and reclaim my interest, reading your thread one lady had a months fight on her hands, but will give it a go.
