Citi PLATINUM Visa

Quick question for all you experts out there ;D
I applied for a Citi platinum Visa a week ago via the Citi Bank Website. I today received my 'agreement' to sign. On checking the terms and conditions I noticed to my horror that automatically, upon receiving your signed credit agreement, they charge to your card 'Payment Protection policy' and also 'Card Protection Policy'. Is this legal? In every other credit card agreement I have signed (and I have plenty! but no debt thankfully :P) you get the chance to 'tick-a-box' to opt out of these plans. I already have CCP which I took out when I opened my Barclaycard many years ago and have no need whatsoever for 'Payment Protection Policy' (expensive and full of so many 'get out clauses' they are unlikely to ever pay!)
I telephoned their enquiry line and got put through to India (yeah right!) and complained about this. The lady told me that I would have to write a letter and enclose it with my signed credit agreement to say that I did not require these plans.
Am I not right in assuming that you shouldn't have to go to this bother? Should there not be a 'box' you have to tick rather than have to write a letter to 'opt' out?
Any comments would be gratefully appreciated ;D

You should have been asked on the form. Page 6 on the online one I think.
From: https://www.citicards.co.uk/docs/repayment.htm
If you're applying for a new card, simply select cardholder repayment protection when you complete your application form.0 -
Hi Galstonian,
Thanks for your reply and yes, it appears that option should have been available on the online application. However, when I applied, I can assure it wasn't! Maybe the paragraph you pointed out in your post, on their web site, refers to the 'paper' application. It certainly wasn't available on the online version. Unless, of course, I was having a 'blonde' day and missed it LOL ???

I have this card and they gave me the lowest credit limit I've ever had (£1k) so I didn't bother using it. After a while, they sent me a letter saying they had enrolled me in their 1% cashback scheme to get me to use the card. I still didn't bother and they now regularly offer me low life of balance transfer deals every so often. I too found the customer service appalling from citibank, especially their call centres....0
