i wish more managers took that outlook to their staff. unfortunately they are just not willing to be flexible.
p.s do have a number of shift swap emails out but no replies so farRude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink! There's no getting around this concept. If you allow yourself to go someone's level you will only bring yourself down.0 -
I dunno what you expect. You have no right to take time off just because you want it - or say you need it. Your OP is not in dire straits, and you jumping up and down and getting frustrated with HR or the union isn't going to change anything.
For goodness sake, the guy is having an operation on his foot, not his heart. How much care does he need? Painkillers, crutches - what more is there?
It's not life-threatening. It's not critical.
What a molly-coddled bunch we are, these days.
I quite agree. I had a mastectomy some years ago and a hysterectomy some years after that. In neither case did I want or need someone at home to look after me.
I think this whole thing is getting out of proportion.0 -
I see your manager went on leave to be with her daughter when she went into labour!!!
Always the same, one rule for management and another for the rest of us.. I cannt believe (well I can) that your work are being so mean about you having time off, you told them you wanted time when he was due to come out of hospital, and, Im sure that they know that you cannot demand a particular date and have to take whats offered!!!0 -
Okay may get shot down for this but here goes:o
We are going through the same thing at work at the moment but from the other side of the coin.
We are a team () of 8 working various days/hours. One of our colleagues is at present on leave/paid/unpaid/carers...we have no idea bosses won't tell us. Her hubby has just had a planned op (on his brain, possibly to do with his epilepsy). She told them she could be off with him for up to 3 months, she is slightly over protective in not wanting anyone else to help look after him.
Where does that leave us.....with all the extra work, we have been told no money to take anyone else on (so she must be still being paid), we just have to suck it up we've been told:mad:
Flexi-time has been put on hold, only one person to be off on holiday at a time.
Who do we work for...........the NHS:(0 -
there is a very big difference between taking a few months off and taking a few days off.
i dont mean to be rude but a mastectomy or hysterectomy doesnt really hinder your basic function of walking ? and just out of curiosity how long after each op where u discharged ? its just i know that the orthopaedic department struggles for beds and turfs patients out the next morning after surgery, were as years ago they would have been kept in for a number of days.
i would like to re-iterate that i was only looking for a few days off paid/unpaid to care for him for the first few days out, i dont work as part of team as such, and my job is and can be done by hundreds of other employees, which i might add that are desperate for extra hours (unlucky for me its seems most are on the same rota, so cant shift swap). i would have been happy to take unpaid leave and give my shifts to someone else. they are just inflexible and thats my main pointRude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink! I just hope that none of bendixs relatives or friends have the misfortune of having bendix care for them if they ever become ill or immobile cos with that the attitude towards illness that bendix has obviously got i would say the poor sod or sods would be well and truly stuffed!0
-
And as for bendix saying its not life threatening,it could be if the OPs partner was to trip over while trying to stumble to the loo, fell over and hit his head then i suppose bendix would be blaming the OP saying she was neglecting her partner.Another one who wants to have it both ways.
Hey maybe bendix should be working in NHS management if they aren"t already!0 -

Oh no! Someone having a brain operation and wanting their partner there to look after them. How totally unreasonable. And you having to share her work between all 7 of you; nightmare. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

well said sam and dark lady

i have found there are certain people on this forum that do nothing but talk down to others and make everyone out to be wrong no matter what the topic is. i really feel that these are the same people that are giving this site a bad name, as there are many reviews floating around out there, stating that people cant use this site as seasoned members pull this same crap bashing everything that is said, its a real shame.Rude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink!
