although i take on board about how useless telling them rough dates was, it was the only option i had. However i still believe my employer has been overly inflexible. I had offered to take unpaid leave, and am well aware there are students across scotland desperate for extra hours (my shifts can be done by employee's in any of our offices across scotland) yet this was still denied.
As for shooting myself in the foot, i think you like others tend to skim these posts, because ive said till im blue in the face  my flat could be on the top floor, bottom floor, it could be a freaking bedsit it still doesnt alter his care requirementsRude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink! you are being unreasonable in your inability to see merit in any option other than your preferred one. There is rarely only one way to skin a cat. You have rejected ideas because you do not like them personally - well, sometimes we have to compromise.
Saying "I am not prepared to do that, it's my choice" is very different to throwing your hands up and going "but it's impossible!" when an option clearly isn't.
I am glad your mother can help.
FYI I have been visiting a relative in hospital for the last 4 days. They were short of beds. One guy did not go home because there was no one to look after him. If you refuse to take on caring duties, and no reasonable care plan can be agreed, the hospital have to keep them. However you seem completely immovable on this one.Debt free 4th April 2007.

As someone who has had quite a bit of dealings with the NHS and various relatives admitted and needing care when discharged in many different locations. I am surprised at the various comments made by people here and suspect many have had little experience of the NHS.
I have found basically if they can get the patient pointing roughly towards the door there out. Not taking into account the emotional blackmail that the relative puts on you to agree as they want to leave as soon as. Over the last few years I would def say it has got worse.
At the moment I have four relatives in various states of ill health in three different locations, my work are being understanding and I am currently on leave. I have agreed to keep in touch and they have said just get on with what you have to do and we will sort it out this end. At times like these my loyalty to the company goes up and it makes me appreciate where I work, which makes me go the extra mile when needed.
I'm glad your mum can help out but sorry she had to, best of luck.0 -

This would surely pay for a carer to come in for a couple of hours a day, whilst you are at work? I'm sorry that you don't see this suggestion as helpful, just because it isn't the answer you want.
.
I hear what you are saying here - but the thing is that the salary is probably already "committed" or substantially so towards things like rent/mortgage, bills, food, etc and is therefore not available for unexpected costs like this.0 -

OP has stated she would take unpaid leave if required. The suggestion therefore is that she can manage without a couple of days wages. The suggestion is therefore that this income be used to offset care costs - which she will not entertain but hasn't given a good reason for other than not fancying it much.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Perhaps it should be suggested that this thread is now locked. The OP has found a solution and there is little benefit in the discussion continuing. I do dislike the way the OP fawns over the response she likes, yet it really quite aggressive with those she doesn't. Civility costs nothing - perhaps the OP should consider the way she speaks to people.0

OP is just sulking that her big evil employer didn't give her the time off, even though they had no moral or legal obligation to. The sooner she learns that the world is under no obligation to bend over to suit her needs, the better.0
