Negotiating credit card interest rate hikes?

3 of my cards have recently fired up my interest rates -- most are now on between 27 and 30% :(

I was an idiot and forgot to cancel two of them before the time limit, so they are now on the new rate. I thought I'd be able to pay them off within a month or so (our house was sold -- but then it fell through), so I delayed calling to cancel them and then the time limit came and went.

Has anyone ever had any success calling up and asking for the hiked rate to be reversed or reduced? I'm really struggling to make the payments now that these new interest rates have kicked in, and our house is now back on the market so we're waiting for a new buyer.

Thanks for any advice.

If you have some cards with interest that high means that your credit rating must be in a bad state so I would think that it is very unlikely that they would reduce it, however if you explain your current situation to them they might consider a freeze on interest for a few months....
