Orange new line installation fee

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here could help me,

I signed up for Orange home phone, line rental and broadband as of April and we are now moving house, the new house has no telephone sockets at all (presumably they've been using cable for a long time). When I've tried to change my address with Orange they've said that there will be a £105 installation fee, which I sort of expected given the phone line situation.

However we really cannot afford that at the moment but the orange rep says that the only other option is to pay the remainder of my 18 month contract out (which kind of defeats the point).

What I wanted to know is do we have any rights in this position, given that orange cannot carry on their service at the new address due to there being no phone line, or are there any other options for those of us tied in a contract, I've tried to find the orange T&C's but can't see it on their site.

Ideally I would like to end the contract if they're giving me no choice but I feel like I have no leg to stand on, If anyone has any ideas or similar experience I would really appreciate it.

Many Thanks

The fact that you're moving to a place where there's no PSTN line is not Orange's fault so can hardly be justification for breaching your contract.

They've given you the options. Pay the breach of contract charges or pay to have a line installed at the new place and continue the contract. Sounds reasonable to me.

What about asking Orange if they'd be willing to spread repayment of the £105 over a year?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Well you've answered my question in that we have no rights, fair enough I'm not against what Orange are saying, i realise now ending the contract is a long shot

I will approach them again about spreading the costs, thanks for your advice.

On the subject of Orange broadband I'd just like to say I signed up because of the price, even after hearing all sorts of horror stories about bad customer service and connection quality, but so far have only spoken to people who know what they're talking about, maybe I'm just lucky but perhaps they've improved.

Contact Orange and ask them for a full copy of their T & Cs. By law, they have to provide you with a copy if you request it. If Orange won't play ball, contact Consumer Direct or your local Trading Standards Department for further assistance.

But what possible T&C's are they supposed to have breached here? They're not obliged to offer the OP extended credit for a line install, and as Heinz already stated, failing to do so cannot count as a valid reason for the OP to terminate their mobile contract early.
