Annoyed at British Gas Homecare price rises

I've been with BG Homecare now for over two years and am amazed at the price hikes. It started off being quite reasonable around 20 odd quid. I checked my bank statement and found I'm paying 40 quid for british gas homecare 400.

I phoned them. Got the usual crap. Now I've been checking and Homecare is now a Risk-assessed policy. It's based on the age of the boiler, the difficulty of getting parts(the cost), the number of bedrooms in my house??, and my callout/claim/repair history.

What a rip off!

It's always been loosely based on those criteria. Although if you are seriously paying around £40 per month, you must have an enormous house or lots of callouts? Do you have timechoice or kitchen appliance cover on top of it?

So cancel it and save nearly £500pa.
How many call outs have you had in the last year, and what would they have cost you without the policy?
Then do the calculation over the years you have had the policy.

With a boiler service at around £60/year, pay for this and the put the rest in a seperate account so you have the money should the boiler go faulty.

By the time you read the small print of BG cover, you will find you are not covered for many major items/jobs anyway.
