Advice on application

I am just finishing a phd and will no longer be classed as a student. I have a job starting in October and am hoping to get away for a week before starting.I could do with the credit to book holiday. (wopuld also prefer a card for booking hols and flight for extra security and could do with a credit card whilst im abroad)

More importantly i have been refused a creditcard a couple of years ago (as a student with no salary) when i did free experian check at the time there was nothing odd, and bank did not have any explanation as to why i had been rejected.

I have just moved house at the begining of August.

My question is, should i risk applying for a credit card now (i could use the money) as a student, or should i wait until i am getting a decent salary in october. Also is there any means of indicating a salary to come on an application???

Finally how long will it take for an application to go through.

Many thanks

Steve

    Steve,

Unless your current account provider will provide you with one, it is unlikely you would get anything with a sensible credit limit or rate until you have started your job.

Would your parents be prepared to add you as an additional card holder on one of their cards for emergency use and paying for flights etc if you could then pay them back from overdraft or earnings later in the year?

    Good luck

Don't worry Steve. Credit reports don't show the outcome of your credit applications, just footprints to show you applied, when, to whom etc. Experian holds these for just 12 months.
