Wanting to Get rid of My Storage heating

Hi,

I bought a house in Ellon Scotland earlier this year. It is a 2 bedroom semi detached. 1 Bathroom, kitchen/dining room, living room a small utility room and a garage. The house is fitted with big ugly storage heaters and useless panel heaters up stairs. which i would like to replace. There is no gas supply in the house! and i have searched every where but cannot find a website to check if there is even a gas supply in my street!

I got an electrical inspection carried out shortly after we moved in. The guy doing the inspection mentioned an electric boiler and said although its more expensive to install its very economical. for how water we have a hot water tank in the loft and an on offswitch in the kitchen. This is really annoying as i want hot water instantly not switch it on and wait 30mins befre i get hot water.

I dont have a big garden and dont fancy oil heating so are there any other options open to me??

Thanks

Barry

From personal experience avoid electric boilers at all costs. They will cost a fortune to run.

How about an LPG combi boiler. They will run off 4 x 47Kg cylinders and give you your instant hot water.

I think there is also a fuel switch grant that your installer gets, for having the storage heaters taken out and LPG fitted. I think it is still £500.
  • :DHi Thanks for the reply. Since i posted this this morning i have found out we do have a mains gas supply in out street.

So i have been on the phone to British Gas who are sending me a quotation for a meter and connection to the grid. I think. Well im pretty sure.

I filled in an online form that contacted local business's that will install the heating systems (Boiler , radiators etc,) and they told me that i have to contact Scotia to get connected to the grid. So i have had a look at the scotia website and found that they do not supply meters and to contact a gas supplier sooooo. Do i just get british gas to connect me up and provide me with a meter or do i get a meter installed by BG then conected to the gris by scotia and then another company to install my heating? I feel like im over complicating things by having so many different companies doin one job! Please help

I don't know how it works in Scotland, but here you contact the supplier you want to buy your gas from, eg Npower, Atlantic etc etc, tell them you want a gas supply to your home, then they arrange for National Grid to quote.
  • Yeh I managed to get a hold of British gas again and they will be arangin with Scotia to supply the line and they will fit the meter! Hi have found someone that works for a reputable company who is going to do homer for me if we agree on a price. So hes going to do a quotation for me! I'll Only get him to do it if i get it certified. Dont want to risk having an uncertified gas system. Thanks for your replies! ill let you know how much it cost all in when its finished!
