Hi
Our workplace has asked for anyone interested in voluntary redundancy.
My substantive post is no longer viable and is likely to be axed. However, I am currently doing a different temporary role, to cover for someone on long term sick.
My question is, should I be volunteering for the redundancy, as my permanent role is likely be axed? Or should I hold out in the hope that my employer may offer me something else.
If my permanent role is axed, will I automatically be forced into redundancy, even when I'm currently doing other temporary duties?
I'm totally confused!?

Your permanant role can be made redundant and you would still be able to continue in your temporary role, after which, if there is no suitable alternative vacancy, you will be made redundant. It's not you that is made redundant - it's the job. Think of it that way and you will be less confused. If you want to volunteer you can do. But you must weigh up the pro's and con's of doing so, because if they agree (which they do not have to do) you cannot turn back the clock, if, for example, your current temporary role were to become a permanant job.0 -
I think the best way to approach these situatoins is to decide what you want to happen and look at acheiving that by analysing the senarios.
If you want to keep a job then how long term is the current situation, if it is a broken leg then the chances are they will be back, if chronic illness then maybe not. How to plan to keep a job.
with all the roles that will be going including your normal one is there anyone doing those that they may want to keep and decide to give them your current job and let you go. think how to avoid this.
Anyone doing a job that will be kept but you think they might want to leave can you grab this role first.
If you want to go whats the package, would carrying on in the current roll be an option, anyone else that might want the roll more than you so you can get out.0 -
there is also the chance the the permament post holder would volunteer to go, and you might then be able to move permanently into their position.....
chin up. :0)

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm sorely tempted to stick it out and see if another vacancy arises.........but I'll kick myself if I end up getting tossed out the door with nothing!0
