P60 from 'legal' employer

Hi,
I was made redundant in February and am pursuing an E.T. against my former employer. I'm hoping that someone can answer me a question regarding my P60 documents over the years.
All of my last 5 years P60's have the name of the company that I believe was my employer. The company that my E.T. is against claim that this was not my actual employer but an accounting code reference.
So, does the name on my P60 have to be my legal employer or can they put whatever name on there that suites them?
Would I be better off asking this question on another part of the forum, as I'm not sure where it really belongs? Or should I direct it to my local tax office?
Thanks,
ExIT

What is or isn't on your P60 isn't relevant. What is relevant is who was your employer, because that is who any action is against. This sounds like a bit of legal smoke and mirrors. I suspect they are going to claim that since you didn't make a claim against the actual employer your claim is now out of time.
Ignore the question of the P60 for now. How on earth can you possibly not know who you worked for? Didn't they have their name on the building or the door? Didn't you get a written statement of terms of employment? An offer letter? What was the name on these?0 -

Hi, I have lodged a claim in time against who I believe to be my employer and have a date for a preliminary hearing. The point is that they claim I was employed by another company within the group, that's why I want to establish the legal 'rules', if there are any, concerning who should be named on my P60.
The group are arguing that I was TUPE'd into a 'new' company despite my never having been informed of this by way of written or verbal communication. This company was then sold and I was made redundant the next day. Despite having an initial contract of employment and an audit trail of the subsequent TUPE letters taking me to the company that I say I was therefore employed by they continue to aruge that I was transferred to a further company. Any additional 'ammunition' from the P60 angle would only serve to help argue my case, although if HMRC are only interested in the tax values etc. the named company may well be an irrelevance as I think you are suggesting?
Hope this explains my interest in the 'legalities'.
Cheers,
