No wonder I don't post on this forum of judgemental biggots anymore, none of you know me, so how can you judge me from the heady heights of your perfect ivory towers. There for the grace of god go I, you're not here to judge but to offer impartial advice not act as judge and jury. God it's like the romans being thrown to the lions or a feeding frenzy, get a life people if you having nothing nice to say then say nowt!

People have given informed opinions. You are now throwing your dummy out of the pram because people are not agreeing with you. I trust you will not start namecalling when you meet with your manager?
    Gone ... or have I?

I resent that remark, who are you to judge me you don't even know me, grow up and go bother someone who cares what you think, good luck finding them.

No I didn't google it but read the posts on the governments small business' advice site under employment law where solicitors answer the questions so facts not fiction to suit, give me some credit :p There is nothing in my contract that states my employment with this company has to be my one and only and it states on the site that this has to be included as a clause in my contract for them to do anything about it.

Whenever you post a question on here there's always one who has to throw a few insults in

    1) Well I don't think it's that clean cut there's nothing in my contract to say I can't have another job or another business, lots of people have 2 jobs working there because there's not enough hours and I only work part time hours for them. I thought I made it clear it's not an admin job/business!

    2) yes it is but how come no one else got a warning, classic victimisation

    3) yes I can understand him being suspicious but he needs to get his facts right about what I am "allowed" to do and what I'm not "allowed" to do, new brush, wet behind the ears 'n' all that.

    4) Forget the racism, I wouldn't even lower myself to their level to let them see it's bothering me

Well I've never been and never will be a "victim", if I'm guilty I'm the first to admit it but this time I'm innocent your honor so that's why it's miffing me off so much - obviously. The only person who's life is being made a misery is mine as currently it seems it's my Managers and colleagues life time ambition but I wouldn't give them the pleasure of knowing that ;) I'm sure a lot of it is jealousy, people here are like that, see someone climbing up from the gutter and do your damdest to kick them back into it, everyone loves a loser.

For someone signed off sick and who can't type; you're doing a fine job it would seem.

People can only judge based on the information that YOU give out.

It's blatantly obvious that you are swinging the lead as they say.

I repeat, you don't seem to be taking it all in.

By which you mean, if we don't agree with your point of view say nowt?

You put yourself up for judgement when you came here bleating that you were being penalised for taking time off sick WHILE you were running another business at the same time. As another poster stated, you appear to have few problem typing in lengthy complaints on this site.

My sympathies are with the employer and your fellow employees who have to make up the shortfall. If you can't do the job as it is impacting on your health (as you imply) - retire and let someone more deserving acquire gainful employment.

From where I'm sitting, it's not about you having another job or business, it's about you being able to do work for that other business whilst being incapable through illness/injury of working at the betting shop.

You clearly have no problem at all typing because you are posting on here!

    Unbelievable. Truly unbelievable.

Reading these forums does no end of damage to my perception of the average British worker. What terrifies me is that these threads come up day after day, suggesting it's not just a few isolated people but the sense of right, privilege and favour is prevalent right around the country.

We need a serious crisis in this country to make people realise how privileged and lucky they are.

Can I just say that I have worked in a bookies and if someone thrusts a betting slip ay you 3 seconds before the cut of you HAVE to be able to process this slip - if that dog/horse wins and the bet is not in by the time betting closes because you have been too slow then all hell breaks out. Gamblers can get a tad annoyed if theit 'winning' bet is not placed in time - they know how long they have to leave it before getting their bet in.

And it is not about the quantity of being able to type, it is the speed in which it has to be done. And I could certainly not process bets with my left hand in the time I was supposed to. You do actually need both hands to process a betting slip - go into a bookies and watch them if you don't believe me, you only need one hand to type an email.

And sometimes you'll have 2 or 3 slips thust at you in the last few seconds which you have to process. You do need both hands to process betting slips.

There are no jobs in a bookies that do not require you to process bets - unless you are the cleaner. Even if you are the manager - not everyone can do this job as they have to price up the winnings and keep on top of the slips after each race, again you need speed and to be able to have both hands - you still need to process bets in case you get a flurry before the end.

Unless you have actually worked in a bookies you won't really get how it works to be able to judge to be honest. Maybe your best bet would bve speaking to ACAS when you know the outcome of the meeting. Take a witness if you are allowed.

ETA: My boss broke his wrist when I was there and was signed off as he was unable to work with one hand.

Consecutive posts seem to have been typed quite quickly and accurately yesterday though. It's very slow to get capitals and punctuation in with only one hand so the OP is quite dextrous.
  • Ok, so you dont see a problem in signing on the sick as unable to do the job, whilst gettiong sick pay from the company employing you, and toddling off and running your own (revenue generating) business.

Blimey, thats where Ive been going wrong, and everyone else clearly. Why would someone self employed actually struggle to set up and build their own business, instead of using the hours by getting paid by employer, whilst working to set up the empire? That must be how Peter Jones, Alan Sugar et all did it. Theyre probably actually working for some small business and on the sick.

Any of this logic sinking in yet OP???
  • Incidentally, lets all conveniently forget that you're are using you position to gain money from a company in a very tough environment. Not only that, you're taking up the headcount of a position that could actually have someone that wants to or desperately needs to work??

take a look on the DFW board, or the pure money part of this forum, where people have been made redundant, are scared of losing their homes etc. You're taking the green stuff, big time

So am I - however, you cannot process betting slips one handed as one hand has to hold and put the slip into the machine, the other hand has to type the amount in and process it. Please go into a bookies and watch for half an hour, on a Saturday when it is busy.

I am right handed but I type quite well one handed too - capitals and punctuation too. You can even type it on an iphone which you can do one handed too. in fact, can you do it any thing other than one handed on an iphone? I have to fill in my spreadsheets with my left hand while I hold paperwork with the other, I had to do that for many years os it is the way I have learnt and could quite easily type emails one handed (also did this when I had RSI a while back).

Maybe it is not best to judge someone when you do not actually know them, the skills they possess or what their job requires of them. It seems that no-one else here knows how a betting slip is processed to even know that the job requires both hands, yo cannot work in a bookies without being able to take bets either. Not one of you knows this so why are you all passing judgement. It is not a job you can do either a) slowly or b) with just one hand.

Emails, on iphones or smart phones for example (or whatever they are - my husband has one, as does my friend and they use theirs for emails), can only be typed with one hand so you get quite fast in being able to do them.

OP, I do not know anything about what you have asked so I think you need to speak to ACAS once you actually know for sure what is going to happen. Until then, let the gossips carry on at work. If you feel that you have a problem with racism then this is something you need to address.

There is, in some places in Wales - usually the smaller towns and rural villages, a huge problem with hatred of the English, some places the English cannot even go to live or work because of it, so this is also a possibility. Rasciam should not be tolerated in whatever form but some people do put up with it because they need the money. the OP was venting in general and having a moan about everything but the job issue is the main concern to be honest, and you need to speak to ACAS about it.
