I realise that this section of MSE is quite an emotional one but couldn't think of a better place to post this, hope it brings a smile to some faces, sorry in advance if it's inappropriate

Whilst it is a funny story on the surface, chances are the air steward will never work in that industry again.

When I was a student I worked in a petrol station. One friday night the place was jumping, loads of customers and I was the only person on the till. Someone drove in, filled their tank & drove out without paying. I was so rushed off my feet I didn't get the registration number (no CCTV in those days).
The boss came through from the back, he was getting ready to go out for the night ... fancy tuxedo on ... he pulled me up in front of all the customers and told me that the cost of the stolen petrol would be docked from my wages. I only earned about 17 quid for the weekend and the guy had driven off with 15 quids worth (probably a full tank, way back then !)
I asked him to repeat what he said. He shouted at me, "You heard". So I calmly told him to "shove his job up his a**e" and walked out to a round of applause from the folk waiting to be served. He came following out after me, "you can't do this, you can't do this" ... and I just kept on walking.
He was still there 4 hrs later, although he'd taken his tux off. He had a heart attack and died 3 wks after that, poor thing. His wife inherited a fortune and married an Arab boy she met in Tunisia, half her age too, but that's by the by.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
