Hi, I know what's wrong with it (Baxi Combi needs a new DHW pressure diff valve). Its not an emergency - I said they can fix it at their convenience...

Was quoted £90(parts) + £56(labour) +VAT. No problem I thought. They then rang back and said, sorry, the call out charge is £79+VAT which includes 30mins work. They said it should take less than an hour so that would be £79+£28 so just short of £110.

I tried to get them not to charge the call out charge because it wasn't an emergency. They claim they always make the call out charge.

So the !!!!!!s just tried to double their labour charge as far as I can see.

Anybody know a "good" gas enginner around GU10?

Ok, ditched my usual "fitter" due to £110+VAT per hour labour (that is expensive isn't it?)

Trying "Rated People" Chap seamed to know what part I was talking about "sometimes the diaphragm can be replaced, sometimes its easier to replace the whole valve". Labour and price part seemed ok until I got a text this morning "Diaphragm cost is £70+VAT"

Why do these people take the p1ss ALL of the time?

So what is your problem? the part costs £70 plus VAT, why is he taking the p1ss? Or do you think someone should do you a favour and fix your boiler for the cost of parts only?

If you are so clever why do you not repair it yourself?

We're talking about a diaphragm. For £70+VAT. Its one part of a valve. the valve itself costs £75. (And I am expecting approx £50+VAT labour charge)

Clever? Moi? If I could buy the part myself I'd have a go. But if I try and do this I'm asked for my Gassafe registration number. Now I could lie but I'd rather not...

I assume I'm getting some sort of "expertise" if I get a Gassafe engineer to fix my boiler. Or, then again, perhaps I am a total idiot...
