Should I take my Amex $ travellers cheques to Corfu?

I have $1000 in $50 travellers cheques left over from a visit to Tobago a couple of years ago. I kept them because the $ exchange rate was very favourable at the time. I would like to use them for my holiday spending money in Corfu this summer, but not sure if I will end up paying a fortune in commission to change them (no bank in resort, although I can probably get to one if necessary). Any advice please?:)

Well the exchange rate for changing them back has swung very much in you favour - you'll probably get more than you paid for them.
As to doing that in Corfu - pass. Received knowledge has it that it's difficult and expensive to change TCs in Europe, but I've no specific knowledge of Corfu.
If you are likely to visit a $$ country in the foreseeable future then hang on to them0
