family loan.
I borrowed a sum of money from an aunt of mine who wanted it kept quiet from the rest of the family bout 2yrs ago. nothing was signed & my aunt said if anything happened to her while there was still money owing to keep it quiet and leave it at that. sadly mu aunt passed away while there woz still £1,800 owing. with in 4 days of my aunt passing her family have now foung out & demanding i pay £2,100 by next week! i usually paid cheques into the bank but i few hundred i paid cash which my aunt just signed her name on a cheque. but its £1,800 owing.they said first they wanted it for the funeral as there was no money 2 pay for it but i know my aunt had it all sorted out. i phoned to explain that i wasnt keeping the money i just didnt think 4 days after her passing was the time 2 bring it up, but noone returned my calls so because i didnt write back they now say they need it to give 2 the grandchildren that was left to them, although there is about 8 of them & £1,800 wint go far between them, they say they need it by next week or will go down all avenues to get it. does anyone know where i stand as my aunt told me to keep it if she did pass away. as i send we didnt sign or agree on anything apart from that, can they make me pay it back? i would rather donate bit by bit her charity than give to these greedy bunch of people who say they are saddned by her death but yet going through all her stuff with-in hours of her passing.:(
